This notice outlines two significant events that will impact .EU registrants and may require action on your part:

  1. Changes to .EU registration qualifications for individuals: effective Oct. 19, 2019, individuals who live outside of the EU and are citizens of an EU Member State can register .EU domain names.

  2. Brexit: EURid, the .EU registry has released an updated Brexit timeline. As early as Oct. 24, 2019, they will reach out to UK-based .EU registrants to inform them of their ineligibility (details below).

EURid, the registry behind the .EU TLD, has released an updated Domain Name Registration Policy, effective October 19, 2019.  The eligibility requirements for organisations will not change, but the eligibility requirements for individuals will — As of October 19, .EU domains can be registered by EU citizens who live outside of the European Union:

New registration qualifications
  • an EU citizen, independently of their place of residence;

  • a natural person who is not a European Union citizen and who is a resident of a European Union Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway

  • an undertaking established in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway

  • an organization established in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway without prejudice to the application of national law.
